Is an Autism assessment right for you?
If the following experiences sound familiar, an autism evaluation may provide clarity.
Feeling confused about unspoken social rules
Irritability that feels like it comes “out of nowhere”
Difficulty with certain sensory experiences (lights, textures, sounds)
Challenges maintaining meaningful relationships despite your best efforts
Intense focus on specific interests
Feeling dysregulated without the consistency of your routine
Your Autism questions, answered.
The Autism Spectrum is about more than just social challenges or diagnostic criteria. It is a natural variation of brain development that involves a particular cluster of traits and behaviors, including many strengths.
Unfortunately, the Autism Spectrum is misunderstood by many, often including healthcare providers. When Autism is misunderstood, misdiagnosed, or missed entirely, this can lead to ineffective treatment planning and increased burnout.
Many clients come in for an Autism assessment feeling like they’ve tried all the therapy to “fix” themselves, but nothing seems to help.
At Rooted Self Psychology, your Autism assessment is more than a set of tests. It’s an opportunity to sit down with a specialized clinician who takes the time to understand your story - challenges, strengths, and all. By combining your lived experiences with evidence-based assessment tools, you’ll be understood beyond symptoms and leave with a practical support plan.
Spend less time second-guessing yourself and more time understanding what your nervous system needs to recover and thrive.
Is an Autism assessment worth it?
Deciding whether to seek a formal diagnosis is a decision only you can make.
Rooted Self Psychology prioritizes assessments that are therapeutic in nature, helping clients in feeling understood, empowered, and ready to implement their tailored treatment plan.
An Autism assessment is about more than a diagnosis. It is about finally building a life that works with your nervous system, not against it.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What does an Autism assessment cost?

What happens during an Autism evaluation?
Intake Interview: The initial intake consists of an in-depth clinical interview to learn about your experiences. You will have the chance to share early developmental and other formative life experiences, present day challenges, and your hopes and goals for the evaluation.
Testing: Using the gold-standard of Autism assessment tools, we will gather data to not only understand symptoms and the areas of greatest impact, but also areas of strength. Beyond simple Autism checklists, we will assess cognitive abilities, memory, and social-emotional functioning. Data is used to guide treatment planning and ensure you leave with your questions answered.
Feedback & Report: Following the evaluation, you will receive a personalized report with results written in understandable language and a list of recommended support services and strategies. This report is yours to keep, allowing you to refer back to it at any time or share it with other trusted healthcare providers.
Synthesizing and writing the results for your tailored report may take up to 2 weeks. A feedback session will then be scheduled to discuss and process the results and answer any remaining questions. Clients often report feeling deeply relieved and understood during this part of the evaluation.
Do you assess children and teens?
While I primarily work with adults, I have experience working with children and families. Children and teens may be accepted on a case-by-case basis. Schedule a consultation so we can discuss whether it would be a good fit!
Do you offer follow-up care?
Yes, I often continue working with clients in therapy following the assessment.
